Nothing but trouble!!!

This piece is being stitched on # 56 silk gauze. I am wondering if I will ever finish it. I have had more problems with undoing mistakes then ever before. Once I start ripping out something it always causes me a problem in another area that may not even have a mistake.AAARRRGGGHHH!

This piece was designed to go on a fire screen.  I wanted to make it into a big pillow for the black iron bed I have with "brass". The bed has a pink silk duvet cover on it. You have seen it in my posts several times. The wallpaper is the tea stained rose. It looked great against all of that.

Today..... I am ready to pitch it out the window!

  1. Break time! I have a rug like that. It's been 6 months. After I did a quarter of it then I messed up twice and stopped short of lighting it on fire and cursing it......so I put it away for a bit. You need a happy easy project to renew your sense of accomplishment.

  2. You know what Catherine? I would HATE to see you chuck such a BEAUTIFUL piece of needlework as this is, so DON'T! You may feel like it now but that of course will pass. ;P
I agree with Kat and suggest that you take a breather from it, (no matter how much you may wish to get it finished) and focus on something else. I can certainly see, however, that it will look Smashing on the brass and black bed and with that pink comforter and romantic wallpaper, this pattern and the colors you have chosen are Perfect! :D

    1. Thank you Elizabeth. I am just not good at taking breaks. I always feel like I have to finish what I started. I don't think I have ever walked away from any project before without finishing it.

  3. Please hang in there, it is sooo beautiful. Nothing worthwhile comes easy. Yes, maddening insanity is a bit much but it's going to be amazing :)

  4. Now now Catherine....count to 10. You are more than halfway through.....it is going to be beautiful. If it was easy we would all have one, you will have something really beautiful once it is finished....keep going!! It will look wonderful on the bed.

    1. Thank you Linda. I am just going to have to face it... I really like working on 40 count much better. I have to find another rug/carpet to stitch. There just hasn't been one I liked as much as Catherine S. Aunt Olga yet.

  5. It is wonderful, it is beautiful, it drives you nut.... put it aside for a while, forget about it and then pick it up again. It may take a bit of time but both you and this piece deserve a chance :o) I'd hate to see it launched through a window !

  7. Hear from you that you are losing patience frightens me: it means that there is no hope for me, nor to do this, nor to do anything else (well below !!!) ;-)
As usual, I admire your infinite skill that evidently can minimize errors to the point as to show the work (up to here) beautiful :-)
    Go ahead hard-nosed!
    Love dear <3

  11. Hi Catherine! I am so sorry you are struggling with this pillow... it is such a beautiful pattern! I have to admit that I have not learned how to "un-stitch" the petit-point yet.... so when I find I made a mistake.... well..... I have to just overlook it! I so admire your perfectionism.... that is what sets Great miniaturists apart from most of us! I hope you will triumph in the end.... it sounds as though that pillow will just look perfect on your bed...!

  12. Thank you!

I am afraid my petit point is far from perfect, no matter how hard I try. Even the pieces I have finished. I have asked myself...Do you know how to count? How can so many mistakes be made if you do? haha

  13. Please, please, please don't give up on this stunning piece of petit point...it is such a lovely design and will coordinate beautifully with where you have planned to place it. I can picture it in place and can hardly wait to see the photos of the finished product. A deep breath and stitch on...it will be well worth every single moment of frustration!!! Cheers, Alayne

  15. Hi Catherine! I am wondering if you finished this piece already? I know, it is easy to say, but don't be upset when you make mistakes... You know, I have a rug that I cut a silk gauze through while cutting of the tale of the floss. I thought I would have a heart attack, LOL, the rug was almost finished. Just like you, I can't wait and have a long break till a problem is solved. I calmed down, found out the way to fix it. The most important thing - don't give up, this is a beautiful piece and only have of a design left. How many colors are in the pattern?

  16. Oh no Natalia! I cannot imagine what you had to have felt when that happened. I saw your BEAUTIFUL carpet that won the award. I also saw the back of it in a photo. It is almost reversible. I have NEVER seen anything so neat. I would love to know how to do that. I am assuming you do not stitch in the end of a thread you just stitch over it before you cut it. I was so impressed.
I have such trouble counting when the colors are so close. Three colors of gold all in the same area. Nothing for you but it has caused me nightmares. I will go back to it someday and finish it.

  17. Catherine, I tried to figure out what mistakes in counting you make in order to think how to help you to avoid those mistakes. Now, after you mentioned "free colors of gold in the same area", I feel what you feel. If it will help you, I can say that when it comes to a part of a design like a ribbon at the bottom, I would stitch it by colors. First, dark gold, for instance. You can stretch a thread not more than 3-4 stitches to another point you have to stitch with the same color, otherwise you need to finish it and start stitching another point with the same color. I leave much longer tails of a cut off thread, because I secure them around a tag to make it tight as well as a thread I start (here I make a waste knot). In this case you also avoid to handle those annoying tails on your way. Yes, I stitch these tails over about 4-5 stitches on the back side and cut off along the way I keep stitching with another color.I hope it makes sense.

Thank you very much for your kind words about Tree of Life. I guess it also depends on how much you enjoy the pattern, because I had a blast and fun stitching those animals and birds (no-repeating motifs) till I reached the point to stitch fretwork, that was slow and dull process.

I am offering a class in petit point for the beginners this coming October at the Good Sam in CA, where I am going to share all my "secrets",:))
Are you coming to Chicago next year? I would love to meet you!
